A short guide on how to install ReShade, set-up your capture keys, and install presets.

  1. Download ReShade 3.0.8.or higher
  2. Run Installer (may need to select “Run As Administrator”).
  3. Select Game, select C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin (in my case) and select The Sims 4 (.exe) application file in the version you play (32 or 64).
  4. Select Direct3D 8/9, when prompted ReShade will ask if you’d like to install the current shaders, click yes. 
  5. Download the 3.0.8 shaders.
  6. Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\reshade-shaders\Shaders (in my case), delete all the shaders in the folder.
  7. Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\reshade-shaders\Textures (in my case), delete all the textures in the folder.
  8. Extract the 3.0.8 shaders you downloaded, add them to your shaders folder (Bin\reshade-shaders\Shaders) and textures folder (\Bin\reshade-shaders\Textures).
  9. Open your game and complete the ReShade tutorial. You can open ReShade menu by pressing SHIFT+F2.
  10. Turn of “edge-smoothing” in your game settings in order to use MXAO and DOF.
  11. Place ReShade presets (.ini files) in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin (in my case). Ensure you are using the ReShade version intended for the preset you’ve downloaded.
  12. Press SHIFT+F2, click “Settings”, and scroll down to the “Screenshots” section, from there you can change the screenshot key from PrtScn to a key of your choosing, and change the image format from BMP to PNG or JPEG.

How To Install ReShade Presets

  1. Ensure you are using the ReShade version intended for the preset you’ve downloaded. Place ReShade presets (.ini files) in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin (in my case).

How To Change Your Capture Key & Image Format

  1. Press SHIFT+F2, click “Settings”, and scroll down to the “Screenshots” section, from there you can change the screenshot key from PrtScn to a key of your choosing, and change the image format from BMP to PNG.
